Kick off the Christmas season in Fredericksburg
Now that Thanksgiving is over, let’s celebrate the Christmas season here in Fredericksburg! There are some major activities taking place this weekend and you won’t want to miss out on these….
1.) Fredericksburg’s Christmas Nights of Lights – November 22, 2022 through January 6, 2023
This event was started during 2020 to give everyone more opportunity to experience the lighting of Marketplatz. Beginning at 5pm every evening this event starts off with traditional Christmas Carols and a ten minute audio presentation about the town’s German heritage. It ends with a countdown at 6pm when all the lights are turned on at once. At Marketplatz you will find the Fredericksburg Community Christmas Tree which stands 30 feet tall with hand made ornaments donated by Hill Country artisans. You can also see the towns German Christmas Pyramid which stands 26 feet tall and was hand crafted in Germany in 2009 specifically for Fredericksburg. The pyramid is a multi level, carousel like structure that spins to show the Christmas Story.
2.) Eisbahn Outdoor Ice Skating – November 19, 2022 through January 1, 2023
Head on over to Marktplatz for festive light displays, hot cocoa, and ice skating! Each year Kinder Halle pavilion is turned into a winter wonderland with a frozen pond perfect for kids and adults alike to enjoy some ice skating. The event is sponsored by Heritage School, a local private school. All Heritage School families volunteer to work Eisbahn to make sure it is successful every year. The proceeds collected from the rink go to local charities and to needs-based tuition assistance for qualifying families at Heritage School. All ages are welcome and skates are provided. Entrance fee is $15 per person, which covers a full day of skating.
