Episode 9
Jack’s 1742
Jack’s 1742 is a luxury tea & pastries cafe completely unique to Fredericksburg. This beautiful corner store is located at the Main Street crossing of HW290 and HW87. They have a wide selection of Harney & Sons Tea sold by the cup or by the tin. Don’t let the large menu or names of the tea intimidate you, Jack’s has a smelling station elegantly displayed at the front of the shop. This allows you to sample each of the flavors by their smell. You can also find French Macarons, and homemade pastries (comfort bites) in a variety of options. Jack’s even sells homemade dog treats they call pup cakes.
This beautiful tea shop offers quite a bit of seating, most of which comes with a Main Street view. Personal power outlets, and open WiFi make this the perfect place for a meeting or productive outing.
While you wait for your order make sure to check out the shopping! Jack’s has a gorgeous collection of home decor, delicious treats, and other amazing products for sale. These products are displayed on repurposed wood spools, a perfect fit to the aesthetic of the store.
Episode 8
Silver Creek
This Main Street hot-spot and local favorite is known for its Authentic German and Tex-Eclectic cuisine, and incredible bar menu. This full bar offers a verity of precision cocktails, and boasts the largest selection of beer in the Hill Country. Open most days 11am to 1:45am, Silver Creek is the perfect late night option for entertainment in Fredericksburg.
The food found here is among the best in town! Enjoy gourmet cooking in casual atmosphere. You may chose to eat in the Dining Room, Bar, or Patio. The Patio has the best view of Main you’ll likely find, and is dog friendly. You can find live music outside in the morning and again in the evening 6 days a week. This full week lineup makes The Patio at Silver Creek THE place to catch all the local talent and experience the towns music culture.
Episode 7
August E’s
If different is what you’re looking for, then look no further than August E’s. This Fredericksburg Favorite has been described as an “uncommon pairing of traditional Texas fare with innovative creativity”.
The Creativity is, of course, that of the owners- Chef Leu and his wife, Dawn. Chef Leu’s roots are Thai, and this heavily influences his culinary stye, although he as accumulated the wealth of his experience from all over the world. This culinary prowess combined with his wife’s Texan-New Yorker style creates an experience and ambience unlike anything you’ll find in the Texas Hill Country.
Perhaps the most uncommon feature of their menu is the sushi bar. August E’s offers a large selection of fresh sushi both new age and traditional. This Sushi menu offers the unique opportunity to experience some of our best local alcohol, paired with high fish from around the world.
My favorite dish on the Menu is the Grilled Duroc Pork Chop. This perfect slab of meat is served on the bone, alongside Parmesan Garlic Mashed Potatoes and glazed with a Sautéed Baby Spinach Mushroom Cream Sauce. Every bite pulls easy from the bone, and is thick with savory juice. Though this is my favorite on the menu, you absolutely cannot go wrong with any of these incredible dishes, BUT whatever you order, be sure to save room for desert!
